To hire drummers in Dubai, choose the moment in your event, pick the drum style that fits it, check the space and the sound rules with your venue, confirm the permit, then get a written quote with the number of drummers and the set length. The steps below follow that order.
1. Choose the moment
Drums are a highlight, not background music. Give them a clear moment: the grand entrance, the opening of a gala, a product reveal, the start of the dance floor, or a slot on top of the DJ set. Write down the running order first and mark the drum moments on it.
2. Pick the drum style
| You want | Book |
|---|---|
| A joyful welcome or a team event | African drummers |
| An Arabic wedding entrance | Arabic drummers and zaffa |
| A baraat or a sangeet | Dhol players |
| A light show in a dark room | LED drummers |
| The biggest visual moment | Water drum show |
| A mehndi, a qawwali night or live drums with a DJ | Tabla and percussion |
3. Check the space
For an entrance, plan where the drummers wait and the route they walk, free of cables, candles and flower stands. For a show, plan a clear stage or floor area. LED and water drums need a flat, solid floor, ideally a stage or a riser, and water drums need a few metres of clear space around them.
4. Check the sound rules
Drums are loud. Ask the venue when live drums are allowed and for how long. Outdoor and beachfront venues usually have a sound curfew around 11pm to midnight, and some cap the volume earlier. Hotels may also need their AV team to approve any extra sound.
5. Confirm the permit
Live performances at public or ticketed events in Dubai generally need a DET entertainment permit. Hotel and venue based private events usually run under the venue's own licence. In Abu Dhabi the authority is DCT. Hotels and resorts often need five to ten working days for a permit for live performance, so do it before the deposit.
6. Plan the light and the setup
LED and water drum shows need a dark room, so plan to dim the house lights for the slot. They also need setup and testing time before guests arrive. Drummers usually arrive 30 to 45 minutes before their slot and need a place to change near the stage.
7. Book early enough
The October to April season, National Day week, Ramadan and Eid, and the year end gala season fill first. Allow at least 3 to 4 weeks for those dates, and more for a large group.
8. Get it in writing
Before you pay a deposit, get the drum style, the number of drummers, the set lengths, the number of entrances, costumes and equipment, travel, sound and who handles the permit. Ask for videos of the drummers on offer.
